A high-barrier, high-density polyethylene modified composite material and its preparation method

The invention relates to a high-barrier modified high-density polyethylene composite material and its preparation method. Based on weight percentage, the blend takes HDPE as the matrix, with PA6 accounting for 10%~15% and PE‑g‑MAH accounting for 10%~15%. The composite is manufactured by a twin-screw extruder with precisely controlled temperature, rotating speed and vacuum degree. Temperature parameters: Zone 1 at the feeding port: 180℃~200℃; Zones 2 to 6 (plasticizing section): 230℃~240℃; Zones 7 to 10 (shearing section): 220℃~230℃. The rotating speed is set at 60~70% of the maximum speed of the experimental extruder. The prepared HDPE/PA6/PE‑g‑MAH blend exhibits excellent mechanical properties, thermal performance and gas barrier performance. Specifically, its tensile strength is 18 MPa, elongation at break 494%, heat deflection temperature 45.9℃, and helium permeability coefficient 1.44×10⁻¹³ cm³·cm/cm²·Pa·s. This modified material with outstanding gas barrier properties promotes the research and application of HDPE in Type IV gas cylinders.
