A novel method for oxidative degradation of polypropylene

This invention relates to a novel method for the oxidative degradation of polypropylene. Through an oxidation reaction, ordinary branched starch is oxidized into oxidized branched starch with aldehyde groups at the chain ends. Using polypropylene and oxidized branched starch as raw materials, and under heating conditions in a twin-screw extruder, the hydrogen atoms on the tertiary carbon of polypropylene react with the aldehyde groups, causing the polypropylene molecular chains to break and thus leading to its degradation. After the reaction, the highest MFR (230℃, 2.16kg) of the polypropylene is 1990.7 g/10min.
