A method for preparing low water absorption nylon 66

This invention endows the fiber material with good shape memory properties while avoiding the potential threat of antibacterial agent leaching. This case involves a method for preparing low-water-absorption nylon 66. 1-3 wt% cerium methacrylate, 1 wt% antioxidant, and 96-98 wt% dried nylon 66 are uniformly mixed in a high-speed mixer; extruded and granulated using a twin-screw extruder and pelletizer; and then injection molded. The resulting material is then subjected to 50-100 kGy electron beam irradiation. This method uses cerium methacrylate as an irradiation crosslinking agent, where the coordination effect of cerium enhances the crosslinking effect of nylon 66, significantly reducing the saturated water absorption rate of nylon 66 and simultaneously improving the mechanical properties of the material. The saturated water absorption rate of nylon 66 in boiling water can be reduced to below 3.5% (the water absorption rate before modification was 7.2%), while the tensile strength after water absorption remains above 70%. The electron beam irradiation modification process is easy to control, has a short irradiation time, high production efficiency, and is pollution-free, allowing for large-scale production.
