The present invention provides an antibacterial polypropylene material suitable for refrigerators and freezers and a preparation method thereof. The components of the antibacterial polypropylene material suitable for refrigerators and freezers include: 110–130 parts by weight of polypropylene carrier resin, 5–10 parts by weight of amino-terminated hyperbranched chitosan antibacterial agent, 1.5–2 parts by weight of lubricant, 1–5 parts by weight of plasticizer, 0.5–1 part by weight of stabilizer and 1–3 parts by weight of coupling agent. Polypropylene pellets dried in a forced air drying oven at 80°C for 10 hours, together with the amino-terminated hyperbranched chitosan antibacterial agent, lubricant, plasticizer, stabilizer and coupling agent, are placed in a high-speed mixer in a certain proportion and mixed for 10–15 minutes, then extruded in a twin-screw extruder at 190–220°C, and finally cut into pellets by a pelletizer to obtain the antibacterial polypropylene material. The present invention solves the problem that long-term use of inorganic heavy metal ion antibacterial agents in antibacterial polypropylene materials will cause certain harm to the human body.
