An Apparatus and Method for the Continuous Production of Lactide-Glycolide Copolymers

The present invention relates to an apparatus for continuous production of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) and a preparation method thereof, belonging to the technical field of biodegradable pharmaceutical excipients. The apparatus comprises a first vertical reaction kettle, a second vertical reaction kettle, a first metering pump, a first twin-screw extruder, a second twin-screw extruder, a third twin-screw extruder, a pelletizer and a storage bin. The preparation steps are: adding raw materials such as lactide, glycolide, catalyst and initiator into the vertical reaction kettle in proportion, heating for low-temperature melting under nitrogen atmosphere, and stirring uniformly; circulating the molten mixture between the first twin-screw extruder and the second twin-screw extruder for polymerization; performing viscosity increasing, devolatilization and extrusion in the third twin-screw extruder; cooling for solidification and pelletizing to obtain poly(lactide-co-glycolide). The obtained copolymer has uniform color, viscosity of 0.4–3.0 dL/g, molecular weight distribution less than 3, and light component content not exceeding 0.8%. The present invention realizes stable continuous production.
