A Method for Preparing Composite Materials with Enhanced Fatigue Life by Preserving the Fiber Length within a Rubber Matrix

The present invention discloses a preparation method and a novel process for enhancing the fatigue life of rubber composites by retaining the effective length of fibers in a rubber matrix. The preparation method uses a conical twin-screw extruder to prepare long-fiber composites by high-pressure low-shear-rate extrusion. Results show that the composite prepared by extrusion via a conical twin-screw extruder at high pressure and low shear rate can significantly increase the residual length of fibers in the rubber matrix. Compared with the traditional preparation process (internal mixing + open milling), the extrusion process ensures that fibers are not excessively damaged in the rubber matrix, ensuring that more than 70% of fibers are longer than 5 mm. The flexible interface layer improves the interfacial adhesion between fibers and rubber, enhancing the mechanical properties of rubber composites. Retaining longer fibers in the rubber matrix plays a key role in preventing fatigue crack propagation and effectively improving the fatigue life of notched samples.
