The present invention relates to a polyolefin material for insulators and a preparation method thereof. The polyolefin material for insulators comprises polyethylene resin, polypropylene resin, hydrophobic toughening agent, brominated SBS, antimony trioxide, antioxidant, light stabilizer and lubricant. The preparation method comprises first banburying and blending the hydrophobic toughening agent, brominated SBS and antimony trioxide in an internal mixer, then fully mixing with polyethylene resin, polypropylene resin, antioxidant, light stabilizer and lubricant, performing melt dispersion in a twin-screw extruder, and extruding and pelletizing. The polyolefin material prepared by the present invention has excellent low-temperature toughness, flame retardancy and hydrophobicity, and can be injection-molded into shed sheaths for insulators. The prepared insulator has long-term low-temperature resistance, hydrophobicity, anti-fouling and anti-fouling flashover performance, and broad application prospects.
